MyTurn sends transactional SMS notifications to our registered users who join a waiting line through a MyTurn kiosk. Messages include:
MyTurn does not send marketing or promotional SMS. All messages are triggered by the customer's own visit to the barbershop.
Opt-in happens in person, at the barbershop's physical check-in kiosk, and it is a separate, explicit step. Two different kinds of message are involved, and they are not opted into the same way — the distinction matters, so we set it out in full below.
The customer enters their mobile phone number on the kiosk screen to identify themselves. If the number has not been verified before, MyTurn sends one single-use verification code (OTP) so the customer can confirm the number belongs to them.
This verification code is sent to every customer who enters a phone number, because it is the mechanism that confirms the number. It is a one-time, single-purpose security message. It is not a marketing message, it is not part of the recurring notification program, and receiving it does not enrol the customer in anything.
After the number is verified, the customer reaches the name screen. That screen shows the verified phone number, in plain sight, and directly beneath it an unchecked checkbox reading:
Checking that box is what enrols the customer in the recurring queue-status notifications described above. The box is:
The customer's answer — yes or no — is recorded against their record with a timestamp.
| Customer who leaves the box unchecked | The one-time verification code only. No queue notifications. |
| Customer who checks the box | The verification code, plus the queue-status notifications described above, until they opt out. |
Message frequency varies with use, and depends on whether the customer opted in.
Customers only receive messages for visits they initiate themselves. MyTurn never sends unsolicited messages to a number that has not been entered at a kiosk.
All messages in this program are sent from +1 888 996 7510. Customers can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message from that number. For assistance, reply HELP or contact us at dmartinez@myturnapp.app.
Opting out stops the recurring queue-status notifications. A customer who later enters an unverified number at a kiosk may still receive a single verification code, because that message is what confirms the number belongs to them.
